另一个记载是《傅子》，《傅子》这本书里面讲曹操放刘备，郭嘉赶快去找曹操说，刘备这个人放不得的，因为他是英雄，他放出去肯定他要闹出些动静来，郭嘉说：
“一日纵敌，数世之患，宜早为之所。”

敌人放走了以后后患无穷，明公你要早做安排。也就是说有人要杀刘备郭嘉说杀不得，有人说要放刘备郭嘉说放不得，所以裴松之的注说，这两个是相反的啊。其实不相反，是一致的。为什么这样说呢？郭嘉从来就没有说要杀刘备，郭嘉说的是“宜早为之所”，就是刘备这个人你一定要早做安排，安排不等于杀啊，在这个问题上我同意周泽雄先生的观点，周泽雄先生说郭嘉的主张是既不能杀、也不能放，怎么办？软禁，你把他软禁起来嘛,，既不丢失人心，又不放跑敌人。但是很奇怪的是曹操这回怎么好像没领悟啊，这也可能这个事情实在太敏感了，郭嘉不便说穿，没有把软禁这两个字说出来，只是说你早做安排，曹操也不知道一个什么原因他就没明白。当然了，就是曹操也好、郭嘉也好，都是人不是神，他再料事如神他也算不到六年之后隆中会走出来一个诸葛亮，这是他算不到的，这叫做人算不如天算。
