Bai Juyi English Translations – Chinese Poems
The Deserted Her handkerchief soaked with tears, she cannot fall asleep, But overhears band music waft when night is deep. Her rosy face outlasts the favor of the king; She leans on her perfumed bed till morning birds sing.... Amico- 0

Bai Juyi: On Duty in the Cabinet ~ 《直中书省》 白居易 with English Translations
"Directing the Secretariat" is a seven-character quatrain written by the Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi. This poem describes the poet's duty in the Silken Tower. He felt the sound of the clepsydra was long because he was sitting idle, and felt even more lonely because he was lonely and alone. The poet vaguely expressed his disappointment in the boring work he was engaged in, alluded to the dull political atmosphere at that time, and then expressed his dissatisfaction with it. This poem is simple in words and clear in narrative. On Duty in the Cabinet Bai Juyi In the cabinet I have not edict to write,But listen to the bells and drums to announce ehours.Who accompanies me at the fall of the night? Before my violet gown blossom the violet flowers....
To the Poet Drowned in the Southern Lake The waves of the Southern Lake roll with bitter tears, Your enchanted soul goes with the waves far away. The ape on maple tree wails and then disappears. The mountain fairy in ivy leaves would show you the way. Your putrid body could not come to life again. How could your soul get rid of the fishes’stinking smell? But so long as your younger Southerners remain, Their long long rope would bind the long long serpent fell.
